Blood, Breastmilk and Vomit (or What it's Like to Take Care of Two Kids at Once)

I am going to rename this blog "Blood, Breastmilk and Vomit" because since I gave birth two weeks ago, I am constantly covered in all three.

I'll post more about the actual birth later because, whoa, it's a doozy of a story, but for now let's talk about what it's like to take care of a toddler and a newborn at the same time. If you're having or thinking about having a second child, maybe this will help set your expectations.

I can officially tell you that being a mother of two is exactly like being a mother of one... except you have half the sleep, two hands tied behind your back, and a constant soundtrack of whining and/or screaming. Also, there's about ten times the amount of poopy diapers and your voice is hoarse from constantly repeating "be careful around your sister" in addition to the other crap you were already repeating ad nauseam ("be gentle", "be a good listener", "are you being a good listener?", "big girls pee on the potty", "why did you pee on the floor?", "listen!", "can you say that in your big girl voice?" and "how do you ask nicely?").

But yeah. Other than that, it's TOTALLY like being a mother of one...

  1. I can't even imagine. I guess if you just keep going like the Duggers eventually the old ones can raise the new ones on your behalf. You're only about...10 births from perpetual freedom!
